Bisbee Through the Eyes of Ted DeGrazia

On display at Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum and the Muheim Heritage House, Bisbee, AZ

DeGrazia and his first wife, Alexandra Diamos DeGrazia lived in Bisbee from 1936 to 1942. Originally from the mining town of Morenci, DeGrazia took to Bisbee wholeheartedly.

During that time, DeGrazia managed the Lyric Theater, owned by Alexandra’s family. In a studio near the projection booth, the artist developed and honed his skills daily, painting portraits, landscapes, and scenes of daily life in and around Bisbee.

Over 20 oil paintings from this period are on display at this twin-venue exhibit at the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum and the Muheim Heritage House through May 26, 2025.

Highlights include a series of nocturnal downtown street scenes from the early 1940’s, in which we see the quiet, near empty streets of downtown Bisbee through the eyes of Ted DeGrazia as he made his way home from the Lyric Theater every night after midnight.
