MISSION IN THE SUN
DeGrazia's Mission in the Sun, located beside the Gallery in the Sun, was built in honor of Padre Kino and dedicated to our
Lady of Guadalupe, patron saint of Mexico. Inside the adobe structure one can experience DeGrazia's expression of beauty,
simplicity and faith.
The mission was the first structure DeGrazia completed at his Swan Road location. All the materials used in the construction,
including the water, were hauled to the site by DeGrazia in his car. The artist designed the building and, along with his Indian friends,
carried out its construction.
Unique to the Mission in the Sun are the beautiful DeGrazia murals on the interior walls, and a roof that opens to the sky, flooding
the rooms with sunshine. The Mission in the Sun is open to the public from sunrise to sunset and is available for ceremonies such as
weddings. Call the Gallery in the Sun at (520) 299-9191 or (800) 545-2185 for more information. (Please note there are no changing
facilities on the grounds and restroom facilities are only available during business hours).
